2022. Microsoft wants to add Stories to corporate portals

Microsoft aims to bring Stories to the enterprise with the aptly-named Stories feature, a forthcoming addition to the company’s Viva “employee experience” (i.e. intranet) platform. The Stories format of snackable content, which grew popular partly because it’s so darn effective at attracting eyeballs, might sound like an anathema to the sort of corporate customers who subscribe to Viva. After all, blue chips value productivity above most else. But Microsoft says this isn’t so — there’s an appetite for ephemeral photo and video slideshows within the workplace, the company argues, because they provide a “fun, familiar way” to stay connected with colleagues.

2022. Microsoft is elevating Viva from pure employee portal to job support platform starting with sales

When Microsoft launched Viva last year, it framed the platform as an employee portal where you might go to find out parental leave policy or other internal communications directed more generally at company policies and culture. But it seems that Microsoft has broader ambitions for Viva than simply providing important information for employees found in the typical employee intranet. Today, it announced the first of what could be multiple jobs supported inside Viva, starting with sales. The tool is built on Office 365 and tuned for Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM. By tagging a customer name or contact, Viva Sales can pull the documents, spreadsheets, presentations, emails and other materials into the CRM tool automatically. It enables a seller to use the tools they already love and use every day including your email system like Outlook, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, as well as Teams. Viva Sales will be offered for free to Microsoft Dynamic 365 customers.

2021. Microsoft launches employee experience platform Viva

Microsoft today launched Viva, a new “employee experience platform,” or, in non-marketing terms, its new take on the intranet sites most large companies tend to offer their employees. This includes standard features like access to internal communications built on integrations with SharePoint, Yammer and other Microsoft tools. In addition, Viva also offers access to team analytics and an integration with LinkedIn Learning and other training content providers (including the likes of SAP SuccessFactors), as well as what Microsoft calls Viva Topics for knowledge sharing within a company.
