2019. Slack integrates with email
Slack's latest feature allows users to message coworkers via email. The feature, which will be rolling out over the next couple months, is meant to give people who don't use Slack a way to keep up with conversations their coworkers are having inside the messaging app. When they’re mentioned by username in channels or sent a direct message, Slack will route those messages into their email inbox so they don’t miss out on important information while they’re getting themselves set up. Initially, the Slack to email messages will only be one-way, meaning the recipient can view the conversation from their inbox but won't be able to respond directly. But Slack says it will eventually allow people to messages via email as well.
2019. Slack integrates with Office 365
Slack announced new integrations with Microsoft OneDrive and Outlook. Specifically, Slack is integrating calendar, files and calls and bringing in integrations with other services, including Box, Dropbox and Zoom. For starters, the company is announcing deep integration with Outlook that enables users to get and respond to invitations in Slack. You can also join a meeting with a click directly from Slack, whether that’s Zoom, WebEx or Skype for Business. What’s more, when you’re in a meeting, your status will update automatically in Slack, saving users from manually doing this (or more likely forgetting and getting a flurry of Slack questions in the middle of a meeting). Another integration lets you share emails directly into Slack. Instead of copying and pasting or forwarding the email to a large group, you can click a Slack button in the Outlook interface and share it as a direct message with a group or to your personal Slack channel.
2018. Evernote refines integrations with Slack and Salesforce
Evernote Business now lets you easier access Evernote content from Slack and Salesforce. It has taken advantage of new Slack Actions to get away from the command interface style that Slack had previously used and make it easier for their core knowledge workers to access Evernote content inside of Slack. Users can take an Evernote note in Slack, which will then show up in Evernote automatically in a “Notes from Slack” folder. The newer Salesforce integration improves the technical connections between the two cloud applications including the ability to “pin” a note to a record. What’s more, once a note is linked there is two-way sync, which means regardless of whether you change that note in Salesforce or Evernote, it will update in both places (because the integration is a live version of Evernote).
2017. Evernote integrates with Slack
Evernote built a new integration with the highly popular messaging app Slack. Evernote is where you keep all your ideas, and Slack connects your ideas to other people. By removing the friction between these two tools, you can now spend less time searching and more time doing. By using the /note command in Slack you can jot down your notes, create a to-do list or a reminder—all without leaving the conversation. Or you can use the /clip command to capture messages from Slack and save them (based on date, importance, or URL) as a note in Evernote. With the /find command you can now search for the specific note you need and share a snapshot with the team without leaving Slack.
2016. G Suite adds Slack integration
Google has added Slack integration for Google Docs and Drive in G Suite. It allows users to bring files from Drive directly into a Slack conversation. They can also create new Docs, Sheets and Slides files right from Slack. Every Google Drive file you share in Slack is automatically indexed and searchable, so you can tap into your team’s collective knowledge and quickly find past conversations and files.
2015. Slack launched App Directory and will be funding developers
Enterprise collaboration service Slack wants developers to build Slack apps beyond the 150 like Dropbox and Twilio that it’s now showing off in its new App Directory. Moreover Slack announced it’s teamed up with its investors, who happen to be the Bay Area A-list of VCs — Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, KPCB, Spark, and Social+Capital. Together they’ve thrown in $80 million for a Slack-first fund. It will back enterprise software developers making Slack integrations part of their core product. Slack and its VCs want these developers to make Slack more useful and convenient with apps for doing all sorts of things in the workplace. The $80 million basically guarantees there will continue to be a healthy Slack platform. Competitors who copy its core messaging features can’t copy the developer ecosystem. That could give Slack an edge on HipChat and other competitors.
2015. Slack integrated with Google Calendar
Slack, the popular office communication tool, will now integrate with Google Calendar, letting events automatically post reminders inside slack channels. After linking a Google account to Slack, you can choose any calendar and instruct it to post to certain Slack channels. For example, you could have events from your company’s development deadline calendar post reminders to the #dev channel two days before a product deadline. Or, on a more lighthearted note, you could have your company’s birthday or holiday calendar automatically post to #general so your whole team can celebrate together. The integration will also allow daily or weekly calendar summaries to be sent out to everyone subscribed to a certain Slack channel.
