2016. Bitcasa will focuse on its platform business

Bitcasa has made the decision to discontinue its consumer cloud storage services and redirect its focus towards its platform business. Users of Bitcasa Drive, the cloud storage product being discontinued, have until May 20 to retrieve their data. As far back as fall 2014, Bitcasa had already discontinued its unlimited consumer cloud storage offering, indicating a shift towards the business-to-business (B2B) sector. The company has now reevaluated the viability of providing higher-priced consumer cloud storage, likely influenced by intense competition in the market, with tech giants like Google, Dropbox, Microsoft, and Amazon striving to attract as many consumers as possible.

2014. Bitcasa is now housing customer data regionally

Cloud storage service Bitcasa has implemented a new feature to ensure that customer data is stored in the respective regions where customers reside. This means that European customers can rest easy knowing their data is securely stored within their continent, and the same applies to customers in other locations. According to Taptich, this capability to segment data in specific regions is crucial to help customers avoid potential legal complications in highly regulated industries. Moreover, regionalized storage enhances the speed of accessing and retrieving information from the cloud, providing a faster user experience.
