2022. Salon software Mangomint raises $13M

Mangomint, the SaaS tool that strives to streamline the booking experience for the beauty industry, which includes everything from spas and massage parlors to piercing and tattoo studios, has raised $13 million Series A. Mangomint recently surpassed 200,000 monthly appointments across more than 1,000 locations in Canada and the U.S., spurred by user growth during the pandemic. Mangomint is an OS for salons and spas that automates booking, point-of-sale, employee payroll and customer relationship management. After the customer call, its software automatically sends a text message to the customers, who will then click on a booking link to submit their credit card information — which can be auto-filled if they have it stored on their phones.
2022. Boulevard books $70M to help beauty and wellness salons with their bookings

Boulevard — one of the wave of software companies that’s building a route to digitizing booking appointments, messaging clients, and taking payments for hair salons, nail salons, barbershops, face and skin care service providers, and others in the world of beauty and wellness services — is announcing that it has raised $70 million in funding, a signal of changing demand and the traction this startup in particular is getting in the space. To be clear, Boulevard faces a lot of competition — other big names include Zenoti, which at the end of 2020 was valued at over $1 billion; Booksy, which PitchBook estimates was valued at just under $540 million in November 2021 after it, too, raised $70 million earlier that year; and Fresha, which was valued at over $640 million at the end of 2021, among many others.
2021. Fresha, a business platform for salons, spas and beauty and wellness pros, extends Series C by $52.5M

Fresha, which provides a software stack to help salons run business operations, has raised $52.5 million. Fresha got its start, and is best known among its 60,000 customers, for its booking software, which it provides on a subscription-free basis, charging instead based on taking a cut on payments, or first-time bookings and marketing messages (if a customer chooses those latter two options). Today, Fresha’s tools include booking and point-of-sale payment software — used in some 120 countries with its biggest markets the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, where it sees tens of millions of appointments booked monthly and has processed $15 billion in transactions to date.
2021. GlossGenius closes on $16.4M to serve as a ‘business in a box’ for the beauty and wellness industry

GlossGenius, a technology provider for the spa, studio and salon industry, has raised $16.4 million in a Series A funding round. With “tens of thousands” of business customers (two-thirds of which are women or underrepresented), GlossGenius recently surpassed $1 billion in gross merchandise volume. Now the B2B software startup has also transitioned into payments as a fintech hardware provider for the beauty and wellness industry with the development of a card reader that integrates with its app. Put simply, GlossGenius aims to be a “Business in a box” solution for salon, spa and studio owners. The end goal is to remove the administrative burden from the small business owners so they can focus more on growing their businesses.
2021. Fresha raises $100M for its beauty and wellness booking platform and marketplace

Fresha — a multipurpose commerce tool for independent wellness and beauty businesses such as hair, nail and skin salons, yoga instructors and more, based first and foremost around a completely free subscription platform for those businesses to schedule bookings from customers — has picked up $100 million. Fresha’s current range of services include a free-to-use platform for booking appointments; free software for managing accounts; a payments service that includes both a physical point of sale and digital interface; and a wider marketplace both to provide goods to the businesses (B2B); and for the businesses to sell goods to customers (B2C).
2021. Salon appointment app Booksy raises $70M to expand internationally

Beauty and wellness appointment booking app Booksy, raises $70 million in a Series C round. The Booksy app is used by customers to book and pay for beauty appointments with local businesses. Salons, nail bars and barbershops can manage the bookings, payments, and customer base via the accompanying Booksy Biz app. The platform also allows salons to sell other products via Booksy E-Commerce, which acts as a marketplace allowing customers to discover and book other local stylists, nail technicians etc. Booksy certainly seems to have cracked the international expansion game ahead of most competitors, which tend to stay more local to their countries of origin such as Treatwell, Styleseat, Vagaro and Mindbody. The opportunity for Booksy is to now use its war cast to roll-up other local players.
2020. Squire, a barbershop tech startup, has raised $59M

Squire, a startup that sells software to barbershops, has raised $59 million. Squire lets businesses schedule appointments, offer loyalty programs and install contactless and cashless payment. The team claims that barbershop operations are more complex than many other types of small businesses because there are multiple parties transacting, plus customers might check out different services from different barbers all within one service. Squire’s total staff is currently 100 people.
2019. Boulevard has raised $11 million for its software to manage salons and spas

Boulevard, a provider of back-office management software for the salon and spa industry, has raised $11 million in Series A round. Through the company’s software toolkit, salons and spas can handle booking and scheduling, payroll, commissions, inventory management and payments along with customer relationship management to improve the customer experience. Competitors in the space have been trying to shoehorn a product that was built for yoga and pilates studios into the beauty industry, but the two have completely different needs. Boulevard was built specifically for personal care businesses and is a high-tech solution for a high-touch market where no one else comes close.
