2018. BigCommerce raised $64 million
E-commerce service BigCommerce, that powers online stores for Sony, Toyota and 60,000 other merchants, has raised $64 million to accelerate its business. BigCommerce has developed a template for its customers to launch websites with manageable shipping and payments tracking. It also makes it easy to cross-sell on Amazon, eBay and Facebook. The company claims it is able to help e-tailers cut down on costs by as much as 80 percent. The company also recently built an integration with Instagram to make it easier for consumers to purchase directly via the app. BigCommerce also has partnerships with PayPal and Google and plans to double down on cross-platform opportunities.

As part of the agreement, BigCommerce customers will immediately gain access to Akamai’s automated image optimization technology. Through a new integration, BigCommerce merchants will be among the first to have access to shopping on Instagram that allows people to discover, browse and shop from product posts through Instagram’s iOS and Android apps. More than 800 million shoppers use Instagram every month, and 80 percent of Instagrammers follow at least one business account, providing brands a substantial audience with whom to share their unique products and story. BigCommerce unveiled new tools to assist online retailers with the task of migrating data between ecommerce platforms. The suite of free Catalog Transfer Apps allows merchants currently selling on alternative ecommerce platforms to easily import critical product catalog assets and customer data to BigCommerce in a matter of minutes, reducing the cost and time associated with migrating. Built by BigCommerce’s in-house team of replatforming specialists, the Catalog Transfer Apps enable merchants to self-migrate data from their online store to BigCommerce, including up to 10,000 products/SKUs and 30 different types of data. E-commerce platform Bigcommerce made its first acquisition, point-of-sale and inventory management software startup Zing. Bigcommerce said the purchase of Zing will allow it to give retailers better tools and APIs to manage inventory and sales across multiple channels, such as an online store and brick-and-mortar location. ore than 30 percent of Bigcommerce’s 85,000 clients currently operate at least one physical storefront in addition to their web stores, and the integration with Zing will allow them to handle O2O services like in-store pickup and shipping from store inventory more easily. Bigcommerce faces formidable competition, however, from other e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Magento, as well as marketplaces such as eBay and Amazon that target smaller vendors.
