2019. Microsoft brought its To-Do app to Mac
Microsoft is bringing its To-Do app to the Mac. It will support most of the core features right away, including the ability to create and manage tasks, work offline, share lists, utilize tags and more. It also will integrate with Microsoft Outlook to pull in your “Flagged” email list and will support integration with Planner soon, allowing you to see any items assigned to you. The Mac version also takes advantage of its new platform to offer a handful of keyboard shortcuts, like ⌘2 to minimize the app so it only displays the list view, and ⌘1 to return to viewing all your lists. You can click on a task’s text to edit it directly from the list view, as well.
2018. Google released Google Tasks mobile app
Google introduced a new app that ties into its suite of productivity applications: Google Tasks. The app offers you a dedicated place to create, view and edit your task list and to-dos, including those created from within the new Gmail or from Google Calendar. The app itself is a fairly standard take on to-do lists. You can create and manage your task list in the app, and break down tasks into subtasks. The drag-and-drop interface lets you prioritize your tasks, and you can set a “due date” for reminders on those you don’t want to forget. What makes the app worthwhile is that you’re able to trace a task back to its source email in Gmail, and view them on your Google Calendar.
2017. Microsoft unveiled productivity app To-Do that will replace Wunderlist
Microsoft acquired the popular mobile to-do list app Wunderlist back in 2015, and now it’s preparing users for its eventual demise with the release of its new application To-Do. The new app was built by the team behind Wunderlist, and will bring in the favorite elements of that app in the months ahead. The company also added that it won’t shut down Wunderlist until it’s confident that it has “incorporated the best of Wunderlist into To-Do.” In the meantime, Microsoft is encouraging Wunderlist users to make the switch by offering an importer that will bring in your lists and to-dos from Wunderlist into To-Do, where those items will now be available in other Microsoft products, like Exchange and Outlook. The To-Do app is not ready at this point to meet the needs of all Wunderlist users, however. As many users realized, some platforms do not yet support To-Do, including Mac, iPad and Android tablet. Task list sharing is also not available.
2017. Exchange Tasks became available in Gmail app
Last year Google added support for Exchange accounts in Gmail app for Android so you can use one familiar mail app for both work and personal business. Now you can also sync your tasks with Exchange so you can always stay on top of your task list, even when you’re on the go. You can create a task, edit its date or priority, and flag an email as a to-do for later response. With a unified tasks list, it's easy for you to focus on your important tasks and check things off the list once you’re done. The simple swipe to mark as complete can be just as rewarding. 2015. Wunderlist adds integrations with Slack, Sunrise, HipChat and more
Popular to-do app Wunderlist is finally turning on an API so that people can create or modify Wunderlist tasks in other apps, and get alerts for Wunderlist tasks when they’re in those apps. The first wave of API partners — which have been playing around with a closed beta of the API since January, the company tells me — are Sunrise, Slack, OneNote, HipChat, Zapier and Scanbot. Next up will be an integration center — which sounds not unlike a similar feature you would get in a product like Slack giving users a very easy way of linking in whatever apps they choose to have feeding into Wunderlist. (Note that Wunderlist already has made a little bit of an inroad into integrations, too: in October, Dropbox became its first integration partner.)
2015. To-do app Any.do 3.0 adds collaboration features
Any.do has unveied version 3.0 of its app for iPhone, Android, Web, Chrome and Mac, which is shipping with no less than 150 new features and now comes with specific support for Android tablet users. It’s offering a new dynamic zooming feature that will let you look across a group of to-do lists, and then quickly move in to look at one in particular. Of course, you could in the past navigate from one to the other in a master list, but here Any.do has played on the idea of fluid gestures to speed up access. Another multitasking feature it’s adding is the ability to collaborate with more than one kind of group. Other would-be productivity app rivals like Evernote years ago incorporated the idea of having a single identity for yourself that can be used to access and interact with business and personal documents in its app. That’s essentially what Any.do is adding here, with the ability to share a list as a “side project,” work teams, or with people you live with, with those who share then given access to edit the lists as needed.
2014. ToDoist arrives on Android Wear smartwatches
ToDoist is shrinking down its popular to-do app to fit on a smaller screen on Android Wear watches. ToDoist for Android Wear support is now included in the free app. Once installed on an Android Wear watch and wirelessly sync with a phone or tablet, ToDoist can be used to create tasks through voice commands by saying “OK Google, start Todoist. Add task.” These tasks will sync over to your connected Android phone and be added to your task list. Since ToDoist also synchs data through the cloud, any tasks added from the watch will be available through ToDoist on the web, other Android devices, Apple iOS, Microsoft Windows, Mac, Chrome and other supported platforms. ToDoist also includes location-based notifications for tasks. Your watch might vibrate, for example, if you have a task to pick up milk and you’re nearing the supermarket.
