2018. Instagram now allows businesses to schedule their posts
Instagram now allows businesses to schedule their posts. Before, there were unofficial means to aid with this – like tools that would send out a push notification to remind you to publish a post at a given time, for example. Unfortunately, the official support for post scheduling doesn’t extend to ads, nor is it directly available with the product itself. Instead, the support is being added to Instagram’s API – meaning that social media software applications like Hootsuite, Sprout Social or SocialFlow now have access to the functionality, which they can then add to their own products. Instagram says the API is available to all of Facebook’s Marketing Partners and Instagram Partners.
2017. BigCommerce integrates with Instagram
BigCommerce enables sales through Instagram. Through a new integration, BigCommerce merchants will be among the first to have access to shopping on Instagram that allows people to discover, browse and shop from product posts through Instagram’s iOS and Android apps. More than 800 million shoppers use Instagram every month, and 80 percent of Instagrammers follow at least one business account, providing brands a substantial audience with whom to share their unique products and story. Beginning today, BigCommerce merchants will now have the ability to tag products in Instagram posts, making contextual information, such as pricing and product descriptions, instantly accessible with a single click.
2016. Instagram is testing analytics for businesses
New screenshots (posted by Later.com) show the photo sharing app Instagram is working on a set of fairly advanced analytics features that allow users to learn more about who is engaging with their posts. Unlike the current app, which tells you nothing about your followers other than their user names, Instagram's analytics show a detailed analysis of who your followers are. You can see how they break down by age range, location and "the average time your followers are on Instagram on a typical day,". And when it comes to your own posts, you can also look at impressions — a valuable metric to marketers and social media managers.
2016. Instagram showed how its business profiles will look like
Instagram business profiles, which are currently being tested with a small group of users, will offer a variety of useful features for those who run a business account on Instagram, including a “Contact” button, access to maps and directions, and the ability to categorize the business by type. The most visible difference between the business profile and a personal one is the new, white “Contact” button at the top of the screen, to the left of the “Follow” button. When pressed, a pop-up menu appears offering directions to the business or the ability to email the account.
2016. Instagram wants businesses to pay for marketing
Instagram updated its news feed algorithm. Posts will no longer appear in chronological order and instead be sorted “based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content.” This means that Instagram will choose what to surface and when (like Facebook’s news feed). So what happens to brands that have heavily invested in creating wonderful content on Instagram? While larger brands have the marketing budget to pay for what was once free media, blogshops and other small businesses may not be so lucky. Consider this your wake up call, because if your business relies heavily on Instagram as a channel, customer acquisition is about to come with a hefty price tag instead of a perfectly edited photo.
