2019. Google Drive added workflow integrations with DocuSign, K2 and Nintex

Google announced a few new workflow integrations for its Drive file storage service that’ll bring to the service support for some features from DocuSign and process automation platforms K2 and Nintex. For DocuSign, the new integration lets you prepare, sign and store your documents right in Google Drive, as well as trigger actions like billing, account activation and payments after an agreement has been signed. The K2 integration is a bit different and focuses on that company’s machine learning tools. It’ll allow users to train models on a workflow (using Google machine learning tools) and then, for example, determine whether a loan should be automatically approved or denied, with all of the information about those requests and the approval process stored in a Google Sheet. The integration also supports more pedestrian use cases, though, including the ability to make lots of documents in Drive more easily discoverable.

2018. Trello acquired business process automation tool Butler

Trello, the collaboration tool owned by Atlassian, announced an acquisition of light-weight business process automation tool Butler. What Butler brings to Trello is the power of automation, stringing together a bunch of commands to make something complex happen automatically. Over the years, teams have discovered that by automating processes on Trello boards with the Butler Power-Up, they could spend more time on important tasks and be more productive. Butler helps teams codify business rules and processes, taking something that might take ten steps to accomplish and automating it into one click. This means that Trello can be more than a static organizational tool. Instead, it can move into the realm of light-weight business process automation.

2018. Zoho launched app integration platform Zoho Flow

Zoho Flow is a new integration platform that ties all your cloud apps together. Zoho Flow lets you create workflows (or Flows as we call them) that connect cloud applications without having to write code. From moving info between apps to executing a complex business process, you can automate a whole range of tasks with Zoho Flow. Creating a Flow is simple. You just set a trigger, add a series of actions, switch it on, and you’re done! For example, you can create a Flow that triggers when a ticket is submitted to your help desk, then automatically adds or updates the lead in your CRM system, and sends an update to your team chat application.

2016. Alfresco integrates its ECM and BPM

Alfresco announced a tight integration between its enterprise content management (ECM) platform, Alfresco One, and its Business Process Management (BPM) platform, Activiti. It's the climax to years of effort to pull the two platforms closer together, and rounds out the functionality of both to manage both business content and processes. Today’s announcement enables Alfresco to compete in Process and Collaboration Management (PCM) market. Alfresco is bringing to that market offers enterprises a broad range of content management and content driven processes. In effect, it combines BPM, ECM and records management, as well as offering integrations with capture and e-signature vendors.

2010. Salesforce now can automate business processes

Yes, Salesforce still had no inbuilt business processes automation tool (only integrated third-party solutions). But business process automation - is a delicate feature that it's better not to provide it at all than provide it somehow. Many other CRM systems promote their business-process automation modules, but actually they bring more problems than profits. In contrast, the new Salesforce module - Visual Process Manager looks pretty nice and simple. Generally, in this case it is better not talk about business processes, but about automation of any operation in the system. There are 4 main spheres where this new tool could be applied: Automating customer request processing In the Process designer, you can create a script (multiple-page form) for the call-center operator. Using it she will interact with the client. For example, when a customer calls to the insurance company and wants to get a quote for the life insurance, the operator launches the script and sees the questions to ask (age, diseases suffered ...). Depending on the answers the following questions appear. The operator enters the data into the form, and the system calculates the quote for this client. The same form can be inbuilt into the customer portal, so that clients could submit the form and get the result. Reminders and Alerts It's a very simple and very useful feature. You can easily set up email-reminders about client or employee birthdays. You can configure alerts about large orders to your boss. You can set up automatic sending of follow-up emails to the leads. In combination with Salesforce Chatter it enables to create the activity streams, containing the log of system events. Moreover, the new module can send SMS, faxes and messages to Facebook and Twitter. Routine automation How often your employees do the routine work in CRM in order to comply with corporate regulations? Visual Process Manager wants to automate this routine. For example, you can set up, that when a task for VIP client is created - the system automatically assigns a high priority to it. Or, when you create a new project for a customer - the system automatically generates its title, according to the given template. Business Process Automation For example, you can automate the contract approval process, when the contract should be reviewed by CEO, accountant, manager and client. The system can automatically create tasks, send messages, change the field values, create new records in the system. All this can be programmed visually without any code. 2004. JBoss airs expansion plans

 Open-source company JBoss is looking to expand into integration and business process automation software, potentially through acquisitions, a company executive said Friday. The company is evaluating a plan to purchase an existing infrastructure software, or middleware, company and make its product available for free under an open-source license. Other expansion options include taking over an existing open-source project or writing its own integration and process automation software. The company could use some of the $10 million it gained from venture capital investors to finance acquisitions. JBoss makes money by offering services and training for a handful of freely available infrastructure software products, notably its JBoss Java application server, which is used to run business applications written in Java.
