Shopify vs Wix in our news:
2021 - Shopify expands its payment option, Shop Pay, to its merchants on Facebook and Instagram
Shopify has partnered with Facebook to expand its payment option, Shop Pay, to all Shopify merchants selling across both Facebook and Instagram. This is the first time Shop Pay will be made available outside of Shopify’s own platform, and represents a significant expansion for the e-commerce platform’s payments technology. Shop Pay will first become available to all Shopify merchants using checkout on Instagram in the U.S., and will then be rolled out to Facebook in the weeks that follow. Prior to this launch, Facebook’s platform has been one of Shopify’s most popular sales and marketing channels for merchants
2020 - Wix launches a new company, Wix Answers, to unify customer support
Website-building platform Wix has launched a new company Wix Answers, which offers enterprise-level customer support and is intended to compete with companies like Zendesk and Salesforce. It’s a product that the company built to meet its own needs, which it subsequently productized and spun out into a separate entity (still owned by Wix). The system provides 360 degree view of the user and showing all the customer service conversations they’ve had across channels, whether that’s via phone call, chat, website ticket or email. The platform uses AI to help customer support agents respond more quickly, and to recommend ways to make the team more effective (like making customer support articles more accessible).
2018 - Wix launched new suite of products for support, sales and marketing
Wix launched a new suite of management and marketing products called Ascend. It allows to manage all your customer interactions from one place, effortlessly capture leads, build relationships, take payments and more. Wix is also developing a workflow editor, so that a business’ website and other channels can respond automatically depending on how customers behave. Ascend by Wix is available as a separate subscription, with pricing ranging from $9 to $45 per month. Other website builders like Squarespace and Weebly (now owned by Square) have also introduced marketing tools, but Ascend seems like a particularly ambitious expansion, encompassing 20 products in areas like chat, memberships, email marketing and search engine optimization (in some cases, these are existing Wix products being brought under the Ascend umbrella).
2018 - Shopify now allows to fulfill orders directly from your phone
Shopify app for iOS and Android now supports buying and printing shipping labels from your phone. You can create and print labels immediately, or save them to print later, and you can manage your entire shipping workflow from the palm of your hand. You also get full access to everything you currently use in Shopify Shipping, including our low rates with supported carriers (UPS, DHL Express, USPS, and Canada Post) directly in the Shopify app. So Shopify is now more mobile-friendly if compared vs Ecwid
2018 - Wix integrates with Instagram - a new advantage over Shopify
Website building service Wix no allows to share your Instagram photos and videos on your website. With the new Instagram Feed App, you can also add links to your individual Instagram posts - sending visitors directly to your site. You can choose from different layouts to showcase your Instagram photos, customize colors, fonts, easily add links to any photo or video in your feed. It’s a great way to attract new followers or to promote a product in your Wix Stores collection, for example. Thus Wix gets more social than Shopify
2017 - Wix unveiled advanced code editor
Wix now allows to create not only simple website in visual editor, but also complicated web applications. The new Wix Code platform opens new possibilities for creators, developers and designers that are looking for the easiest way to build robust web applications tailored to their business needs. It’s serverless, hassle-free coding. You can set up database collections, create content rich websites, add custom forms, change site behavior with APIs and much more. All are built with the ease of use and stunning visual components of the Wix Editor. Plus, anything you build is SEO compatible. So we may assume that Wix becomes more customizable in comparison to GoDaddy
2017 - Shopify adds new shareable discount links
To help you make the most of the holiday shopping bonanza, Shopify added a simple new function that will help you reach out and pull those deal-hunters right into your store. Shareable Discount Links direct customers to your homepage and automatically apply a discount code to their cart. Shareable Discount Links eliminate the need to find or enter a code, and give you an enticing invitation that you can send to customers via email, Facebook, or other social media. Thus Shopify provides now more more marketing features in comparison to ShopKeep
2017 - Shopify Mobile adds Discounts, Product Collections, Live View, and More to catch up with BigCommerce
Last year during Black Friday Cyber Monday, more Shopify merchants logged in on mobile than on desktop. That’s why this year the developers focused on making key features you need for your #BFCMWin available on your phone or tablet. You can now create, modify, and manage discounts from your phone and tablet. Another new feature - Product collections is one of the best ways to help your customers find what they’re looking for quickly. Now, you can set up and modify Product Collections on mobile in the Shopify app. And with Live View on mobile, you can keep track of your store’s performance in real-time, which is especially handy during high-traffic days like BFCM weekend. So we may assume that Shopify now provides more marketing tools than BigCommerce
2017 - Shopify integrates with UPS
UPS has become a new option in Shopify Shipping, so U.S.-based Shopify merchants can now offer a best-in-class delivery experience, just like enterprise retailers. With UPS and Shopify Shipping, you’ll get competitive rates of up to 52% off list rates, just in time for the holiday season. No matter how big or small your business is, you can now access UPS’ guaranteed delivery date shipping options at industry-leading rates. UPS offers Shopify merchants exclusive discounted rates, especially for heavier packages. Shopify will cover any peak surcharges on UPS Ground shipments during the holidays. The conclusion is that Shopify provides more delivery options in comparison to osCommerce
2017 - Shopify introduced real-time visitors monitoring
Shopify now allows store owners to watch the activity taking place in online store, as it happens. With Live View, you can now keep track of how your store is performing in real-time right from the palm of your hand. You can track how many visitors are on your site right now and where in the world they are, watch visitors become customers and celebrate sales as they happen, monitor daily total visits, orders, and sales, keep a pulse on your purchase funnel as visitors add items to their carts, start the checkout process, and successfully make purchases, see how many pages are being viewed right now. The conclusion is that Shopify provides better live statistics if compared vs Yotpo
