dynaTrace
Cloud monitoring reinvented. Easy, Automatic, AI-Powered. Automatically monitor dynamic hybrid-cloud environments.
Prometheus and Dynatrace are two popular monitoring and observability tools that offer different approaches to monitoring and troubleshooting applications and infrastructure.

Prometheus is an open-source monitoring and alerting toolkit that focuses on time-series data collection and analysis. It excels at collecting and storing metrics from various sources and provides a flexible querying language, PromQL, for analyzing and alerting on the collected data. Prometheus is highly customizable and can be integrated with different monitoring components to create a comprehensive monitoring solution. It is known for its scalability and community support, making it a popular choice for organizations embracing a self-managed monitoring infrastructure.

DynaTrace, on the other hand, is a commercial application performance monitoring (APM) platform that provides end-to-end observability across complex application architectures. It offers advanced features like code-level diagnostics, distributed tracing, and AI-driven analytics to identify performance bottlenecks and detect anomalies. DynaTrace provides automatic instrumentation and real-time visibility into application dependencies, enabling deep insights into application performance and user experience. It is designed to handle large-scale environments and offers extensive monitoring capabilities for cloud-native applications.

The key differences between Prometheus and DynaTrace lie in their focus and feature sets. Prometheus is primarily focused on time-series monitoring and offers extensive customization options, making it suitable for organizations looking for a flexible, open-source monitoring solution. On the other hand, DynaTrace is a comprehensive APM platform that provides detailed insights into application performance, transaction tracing, and automatic root cause analysis, making it a preferred choice for organizations requiring deep visibility and troubleshooting capabilities across complex application environments.

2019. Zabbix 4.2 adds built-in support of Prometheus data collection

Zabbix Team has recently unveiled the launch of Zabbix 4.2. This latest version introduces a comprehensive monitoring system equipped with cutting-edge features, including data collection and processing, distributed monitoring, real-time problem and anomaly detection, alerting and escalations, visualization, and more. Zabbix 4.2 significantly enhances data collection capabilities, supporting diverse methods such as push and pull from various sources like JMX, SNMP, WMI, HTTP/HTTPS, RestAPI, XML Soap, SSH, Telnet, agents, scripts, and more. Notably, the integration with Prometheus has been added as a new feature, allowing native support for the PromQL language. Additionally, the utilization of dependent metrics empowers the Zabbix team to efficiently gather a vast amount of Prometheus metrics. By making a single HTTP call, all the required data can be retrieved and subsequently reused for relevant dependent metrics.
