Groupboard
Groupboard is a set of multi-user java applets including whiteboard, chat, message board, games and voice conferencing which you can place on your web page by simply copying a few lines of HTML code. You can also run Groupboard on your own web server. It can be used for tutoring, distance learning, training, or simply for fun! With the whiteboard you can upload background gif/jpeg images and draw on top of them, and all of the users connected to the board will see the changes in real-time.

Twiddla
Twiddla is a no-setup, web-based meeting playground. Mark up websites, graphics, and photos, or start brainstorming on a blank canvas. Browse the web with your friends or make that conference call more productive than ever. No plug-ins, downloads, or firewall voodoo - it's all here, ready to go when you are. Browser-agnostic, user-friendly.
Groupboard and Twiddla are two online collaborative whiteboard tools that offer unique features for team collaboration and visual communication. Groupboard provides a simple and intuitive interface where users can collaborate in real-time, using drawing tools, shapes, and text to share ideas and work together on a shared canvas. It also offers features such as chat, audio conferencing, and screen sharing, enhancing remote collaboration. On the other hand, Twiddla offers a more advanced set of tools, including markup and annotation capabilities, document sharing, and integration with popular cloud storage services. With its emphasis on document collaboration and annotation, Twiddla is particularly useful for teams working on reviewing and editing documents together.

2008. Twiddla takes home SXSW award despite sluggish performance

Collaborative whiteboarding applications can be invaluable for geographically dispersed small groups engaged in brainstorming sessions. Allow me to introduce Twiddla, a free tool that facilitates marking up media, live websites, and organizing ideas on a virtual whiteboard. It also offers live communication capabilities through text chat and free VoIP conference calling, eliminating the need for additional plug-ins or software. This application recently received a technical achievement award at the SXSW Interactive Web Awards. Although it boasts impressive technology, my testing revealed occasional speed and local resource challenges. While its interface is user-friendly and menus are quick to respond, I encountered instances where the application was almost unusable. Nevertheless, there were also occasions where it performed exceptionally well.
