2021. Wix launches a no-code app builder for $200 per month



Wix has announced a new product for business owners called Branded App by Wix, which allows users to develop native apps without writing code. Wix provides tools for people and businesses to manage their online presence, but it’s most well-known for its drag-and-drop website builder. Now, the platform is expanding its user-friendly approach by making it possible for anyone to build an app without learning how to code. At $200 per month, Branded App by Wix is no small investment; users will also have to pay a yearly $99 fee to be on the App Store, and a one-time $25 fee for Google Play. But according to Wix, native mobile apps can help businesses ultimately drive more sales.


2020. Wix launches a new company, Wix Answers, to unify customer support



Website-building platform Wix has launched a new company Wix Answers, which offers enterprise-level customer support and is intended to compete with companies like Zendesk and Salesforce. It’s a product that the company built to meet its own needs, which it subsequently productized and spun out into a separate entity (still owned by Wix). The system provides 360 degree view of the user and showing all the customer service conversations they’ve had across channels, whether that’s via phone call, chat, website ticket or email. The platform uses AI to help customer support agents respond more quickly, and to recommend ways to make the team more effective (like making customer support articles more accessible).


2020. GoDaddy acquired social content startup Over



GoDaddy has acquired Over, the startup behind an app that helps businesses create the photos and videos they need for social media. Over is offering a variety of customizable templates and layouts that should make it faster and easier to create eye-catching visual content. The startup says it has more than 1 million active users of its own, who are using it to create more than 220,000 projects every day. The acquisition follows GoDaddy’s relaunch of its website-building tools last fall under the new name Websites+Marketing, with additional features around email marketing, search engine optimization and maintaining a presence beyond your website, whether that’s on Facebook or Yelp.


2018. Wix launched new suite of products for support, sales and marketing



Wix launched a new suite of management and marketing products called Ascend. It allows to manage all your customer interactions from one place, effortlessly capture leads, build relationships, take payments and more. Wix is also developing a workflow editor, so that a business’ website and other channels can respond automatically depending on how customers behave. Ascend by Wix is available as a separate subscription, with pricing ranging from $9 to $45 per month. Other website builders like Squarespace and Weebly (now owned by Square) have also introduced marketing tools, but Ascend seems like a particularly ambitious expansion, encompassing 20 products in areas like chat, memberships, email marketing and search engine optimization (in some cases, these are existing Wix products being brought under the Ascend umbrella).


2018. GoDaddy site builder integrates with Google My Business



Website hosting and small business marketing firm GoDaddy has done an integration with Google that largely automates the process of setting up and verifying a Google My Business (GMB) profile. GMB registration and submission is integrated with the company’s GoCentral website builder. Business data from the website is uploaded to GMB and verification is compressed from weeks to days. The GMB integration is included with the Business Plus and Online Store hosting plans. Claiming and populating a GMB profile directly on Google is free. GoDaddy will also report on GMB-driven traffic and related actions: profile/listings views, calls, directions requests and website visits. Interesting that Google own service Google Sites isn't still integrated with GMB.


2018. Wix integrates with Instagram



Website building service Wix no allows to share your Instagram photos and videos on your website. With the new Instagram Feed App, you can also add links to your individual Instagram posts - sending visitors directly to your site. You can choose from different layouts to showcase your Instagram photos, customize colors, fonts, easily add links to any photo or video in your feed. It’s a great way to attract new followers or to promote a product in your Wix Stores collection, for example.

2017. GoDaddy launched business phone system SmartLine



Domain and hosting provider GoDaddy is moving into the voice and telephone business with a new app called SmartLine. It's aimed at addressing a basic need of small businesses — more and more of them are using their smartphones for both work and personal calls, but they don’t necessarily want to give everyone their personal phone number. So SmartLine creates a second number that connects to a customer’s iOS or Android device. Other features include the ability to fully configure SmartLine from the mobile app (without visiting a website), to set business hours (so that calls outside of those hours go directly to voicemail) and to receive voicemail transcriptions. And to win over alternatives, GoDaddy plans for more features, like vanity numbers, toll-free numbers and sharing a single phone number between multiple employees’ cell phones. A SmartLine with unlimited calling and texting costs $9.99 per month.
