2023. Egnyte is bringing generative AI capabilities for secure content collaboration

Cloud storage service Egnyte has introduced a new generative AI tool - a ChatGPT-like interface where customers can interact with the content stored in Egnyte to do things like create summaries of documents or review transcripts of video and audio to generate a list of key points or summaries. The company isn’t new to AI, but in the past, as with many enterprise companies announcing generative AI this year, it was taking care of background tasks like privacy, security and infrastructure management. In the future, the company plans to allow customers to query across a set of documents in a single folder or across multiple folders to locate content related to a particular subject, and that will bring powerful search capabilities to the content repository.

2020. Egnyte introduces new features to help deal with security/governance during pandemic

Egnyte is planning to introduce new features designed to assist companies in managing files effectively amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic. One of the key additions is the introduction of a feature called Smart Cache, which ensures that the frequently accessed content by individual users is readily available whenever they require it, regardless of its storage location. Additionally, Egnyte is launching an email governance tool that actively monitors the content, scanning it for known malware and ransomware. If any potentially harmful files are detected, the tool prevents their distribution, ensuring enhanced security measures.

2018. Egnyte releases one-step GDPR compliance solution

Egnyte has introduced a new feature to assist customers in adhering to the GDPR privacy regulations that recently came into effect in Europe. By simply enabling the "Identify sensitive content" feature and selecting the desired compliance rules, including GDPR, users can initiate a comprehensive scan of all their repositories. The system will identify content that falls under the sensitive category according to GDPR guidelines. The service will provide a list of files and assign them a risk factor ranging from 1 to 9, with 1 indicating the lowest risk and 9 indicating the highest. Depending on your preferred level of compliance tolerance, you have the flexibility to configure the program to display specific files.

2017. Egnyte Connect syncs files between the cloud and office

Egnyte has consistently distinguished itself from Box and Dropbox by offering a hybrid storage alternative instead of a fully cloud-based approach. With Egnyte, you can seamlessly incorporate on-premises files into your storage solution. They also provide assistance in managing these files, and Egnyte Connect plays a key role in this strategy. While Egnyte already offers a Connect mobile app for file viewing, the recent announcement of their desktop app aims to empower corporate business users, who typically use laptops, to effortlessly view and edit files both inside and outside the office. The beauty of this solution lies in the fact that users no longer need to worry about the file's storage location or syncing after they are done working with it.

2016. Egnyte launched document protection service

Cloud file storage provider Egnyte has discovered innovative ways to monetize the data it collects as documents traverse its system. The newly introduced service, Egnyte Protect, serves as a document protection tool that tracks the movement of folders or individual documents across various services. While compliance tools are not unique in the market, Egnyte stands out by offering protection across both on-premises and cloud services, providing companies with comprehensive security in hybrid environments. Additionally, IT administrators receive near real-time alerts in the event of an unauthorized attempt to access a restricted document. Egnyte's approach distinguishes itself amidst a competitive landscape, allowing organizations to safeguard their data effectively.

2016. Egnyte puts customers in control of encryption keys

Egnyte has introduced a new capability that allows customers to have greater authority over their encryption keys. This can be achieved through either a customer-managed solution or a more streamlined cloud service. By enabling customers to manage their encryption keys, they gain enhanced control over the security and accessibility of their data within the Egnyte platform. This includes the ability to thwart unauthorized intruders or address legal requests, such as government subpoenas. The customer-managed service is seamlessly integrated into the Egnyte admin control panel and offers support for various third-party key management services, such as Microsoft Azure Key Vault, Amazon Cloud HSM, or an on-premises HSM compatible with KMIP, such as SafeNet.

2015. Egnyte adds content analytics dashboard

Egnyte, the provider of hybrid-cloud data management services, has introduced a new solution that enables companies to effectively monitor and manage their content. Known as "Smart Reporting & Auditing File Service," this tool offers a comprehensive dashboard environment where managers can delve into various aspects such as content creation, access, and more across their networks. It provides valuable insights into a company's data, irrespective of whether it is stored on-premises or in the cloud. Additionally, the tool has the capability to track link usage, activity based on device type and model, as well as the storage products being utilized. Essentially, it offers a window into the actions and interactions of workers with content at any given time. Notably, this new tool is provided free of charge to all existing Egnyte customers.

2015. Enterprise file sharing app Egnyte comes to Apple Watch

Enterprise file storage and sharing service Egnyte, known for its intelligent integration of cloud solutions and on-premises storage, has recently enhanced its mobile applications by introducing support for the Apple Watch. In addition to this, the company has updated its mobile apps across Android, iOS, and Windows platforms. These updated apps feature "dynamic notifications," as described by the company, and offer administrators the capability to onboard users directly from mobile devices. The Egnyte Watch app specifically incorporates offline folder management and, naturally, provides notifications to users.

2015. Hybrid cloud storage Egnyte supercharges Google for Work

Enterprise file sync and share service, Egnyte, has officially released its Egnyte for Google Apps solution on the Google Apps Marketplace. This offering from Egnyte allows Google Apps for Work users to effortlessly transfer files between the Google Drive cloud and their on-premises infrastructure. The integration maintains the same folder structure and controls, effectively combining the strengths of both Google Drive and Egnyte. By leveraging this new solution, teams gain improved flexibility and control when accessing and collaborating on highly sensitive files. These files can be stored in the company's corporate data center and users' private Google Drive folders, catering to both Google and non-Google users within and outside the organization.

2015. Cloud storage solution Egnyte adds file auditing, intelligent distribution

Egnyte unveiled several enhancements to their hybrid storage solution, including intelligent file distribution, a capability that determines the optimal location for a file based on usage and IT policies. Additionally, they introduced a new file auditing feature that empowers IT to track the movement of files, placing Egnyte on par with many competitors in the market. As a player in the enterprise file sync and share sector, alongside Box, Syncplicity, Dropbox, and others, Egnyte has consistently differentiated itself by offering a hybrid approach instead of an all-cloud solution. This approach allows customers to store their files either on-premises or in the cloud.
