2020 - Egnyte introduces new features to help deal with security/governance during pandemic
Egnyte is looking to meet with new features aimed at helping companies cope with file management during the pandemic. The company is introducing a new feature called Smart Cache to make sure that content (wherever it lives) that an individual user accesses most will be ready whenever they need it. Also Egnyte is introducing an email governance tool that keeps an eye on this content, scanning it for known malware and ransomware and blocking files from being put into distribution when it identifies something that could be harmful.
2018 - Microsoft added AI transcription to OneDrive and SharePoint
Microsoft is adding video and audio transcription capabilities to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint, making a range of digital content more easily accessible to users. The new feature will automatically create a full transcript of dialogue when viewing a video or listening to an audio file, using AI technology available in Microsoft Stream (formerly Office 365 Video). The text data will be stored in the Microsoft Cloud, which Microsoft claims can be cheaper and more secure than relying on third-party transcription tools. The new service will be made available to Office 365 subscribers later this year.
2018 - Egnyte releases one-step GDPR compliance solution
Egnyte announced a new feature to help customers comply with GDPR privacy regulations that went into effect in Europe last week. Users can just turn on “Identify sensitive content” feature and select which sets of rules you want to check for compliance including GDPR. Once they do this, the system goes and scans all of your repositories to find content deemed sensitive under GDPR rules. The service will return a list of files and marks them with a risk factor from 1-9 with one being the lowest level of risk and 9 being the highest. You can configure the program to expose whichever files you wish based on your own level of compliance tolerance. Thereby Egnyte is now more EU-compliant in comparison to Syncplicity
2017 - Egnyte Connect syncs files between the cloud and office to fight DropBox
Egnyte has always tried to separate itself from Box and Dropbox by being the hybrid storage alternative to the competition’s fully cloud approach. If you have files on-prem that’s fine with Egnyte. They will help manage them too — and Egnyte Connect plays directly into that strategy. Egnyte already has a Connect mobile app for viewing files, but with today’s desktop app announcement, it’s trying to enable corporate business users, who typically carry laptops to view and edit files inside or outside the office without having to worry about where the file is stored or syncing when they’re done.
2016 - Egnyte launched document protection service to win over OneDrive
Cloud file storage provider Egnyte found new ways to commercialize the data it collects as documents move through its system. The new service Egnyte Protect is a document protection tool that follows a folder or document across services. Egnyte is not the first company to create compliance tools, but what makes it stand out a bit in a crowded market, is that it works across on-prem and cloud services giving companies this protection across a hybrid environment. What’s more, IT gets near real-time alerts should an unauthorized person try to access a restricted document.
2016 - Egnyte puts customers in control of encryption keys. DropBox keeps calm
Egnyte announced a new feature that lets customers control their encryption keys with either a customer-managed offering or a cloud service that requires less heavy lifting and management. Letting customers manage the encryption keys can give them finer control over security and access to the information stored via the Egynyte services — whether that involves blocking a malicious intruder or responding to a government subpoena. The customer-managed service is built into the Egnyte admin control panel and it supports a number of third-party key management services including Microsoft Azure Key Vault, Amazon Cloud HSM or a KMIP-compatible on-premises HSM such as SafeNet.
2015 - Egnyte adds content analytics dashboard to challenge Syncplicity
Egnyte, the hybrid-cloud data management services, released a new method for companies to track and manage content in their control. The new tool, called "Smart Reporting & Auditing File Service" is a dashboard environment that allows managers to dig into content creation, access and the like across their networks. It provides information about a company’s data, regardless whether it is stored on-prem or in the cloud. The tool can also track link usage, activity by device varietal, model, and what storage products are in use. It’s something like a window into what workers are doing with content at any given point. The new tool is free for all current Egnyte customers.
2015 - Enterprise file sharing app Egnyte comes to Apple Watch
Enterprise file storage and sharing service Egnyte, that provides an intelligent layer between cloud solutions and on-premises storage, updated its mobile apps, adding the Apple Watch to its stack. The company also refreshed mobile refresh includes its Android, iOS and Windows apps. All new apps include what the firm calls “dynamic notifications,” and the ability for administrators to onboard users while mobile. The Egnyte Watch app includes offline folder management and, of course, notifications.
2015 - Hybrid cloud storage Egnyte supercharges Google for Work
Enterprise file sync and share service Egnyte announced the general availability of its Egnyte for Google Apps solution in the Google Apps Marketplace. Egnyte provides Google Apps for Work customers with an open architecture to seamlessly move files between the Google Drive cloud and on-premises infrastructure, with the same folder structure and controls, bringing together the best of Google Drive and Egnyte. This new solution provides enhanced flexibility and control for teams to access and collaborate on highly confidential files stored in the company’s corporate data center and from users’ private Google Drive folders, with Google and non-Google users inside and outside of the company.
2015 - Microsoft gives Apple Users OneDrive For Business Access to keep up competition with Syncplicity
Microsoft has released the first public version of OneDrive for Business for Mac. With the new OneDrive for Business for Mac, users will be able to do the same as well as access and use files in their OneDrive through the Mac Finder and manage and sync files in the same way they would with the existing application for Windows. The OneDrive for Business client for Mac also allows users to access and take their OneDrive for Business files offline so users can access downloaded files without having to have access to an Internet connection. However, the real draw is that the iOS app for mobile devices lets users access both their OneDrive for Business and OneDrive consumer accounts from the same app.
