2014 - TeamViewer 10 adds video calls and other new features
Remote support service TeamViewer released the new version 10 that includes significant performance optimizations, UI redesign and a bunch of new features. Now you can reach out to your colleagues using video and VoIP in exceptional quality for both image and audio without having to first start a meeting. You can also talk to multiple participants simultaneously in a single call, and share your screen at any time. Besides, TeamViewer 10 provides a complete chat history for all conversations, and chats are end-to-end encrypted. Administrator now can apply setting policies, distribute them, and enforce them if necessary, all via the Management Console. Any changes to setting policies are automatically applied to all installations.
2014 - TeamViewer integrated with Spiceworks to win over OTRS
Remote support tool TeamViewer is now integrated with IT Help Desk service combined with IT community Spiceworks. From now users (support agents) are able to create and join support sessions directly from the Spiceworks help desk. Customers can connect with a simple click. An overview of current Spiceworks sessions is available in the TeamViewer Management Console and TeamViewer client. Connection reports are added to the corresponding ticket. Spiceworks is used by more than 5 million IT professionals to connect with one another, manage technology environments and learn about the latest technology products and services.
2013 - TeamViewer allows to remotely support mobile users
TeamViewer - is probably the most popular remote support app. Support agent remotely connects customer computer and solves his problem. But now many customers and employees are using smartphones and tablets not less than desktop computers and they also want to get remote support. To fix this gap recently TeamViewer QuickSupport app for iOS and Android was launched. It allows to remotely control mobile device. Well, to be honest, it can't remotely control iPhone (even iPhone owner can't fully control it). In case with iPhone, support agent can only communicate with the user via chat, transfer files, iOS configuration profiles and different settings (e-mail account, Microsoft Exchange account, and Wi-Fi settings), view the dashboard and screenshots (which the user have to do it himself).
But in case with Android, the mobile device can be fully controlled from the screen of agent's computer.
Remote support works like this:
1. User installs free mobile app TeamViewer QuickSupport
2. Launches it and sends the session ID to support agent
3. Agent launches desktop version, enters the ID and starts the remote support session
2009 - TeamViewer enhanced its desktop sharing software
TeamViewer, the solution for online

2008 - Free Desktop Sharing, Minus the User Limit
The other day I wrote about TeamViewer,
which is a very quick-to-use and simple solution for online desktop
sharing, including sharing desktops between PCs and Macs, although fees
are imposed for commercial use. ScreenStream
which bills itself as “screen broadcasting software” is another
completely free solution in this space that some web workers may want
to consider. In order to show remote users what’s going on on your
desktop with ScreenStream, you need to be running Windows, but users on
Mac and Linux systems can instantly view your desktop via a browser.
Here is how it works.
ScreenStream is a very quick download.
NCH Software, the company that makes it, says it offers the application
free in the hopes that users will try some of their other collaboration
software options. When installing ScreenStream, you get a promt from
the installation wizard about which products you’re interested in, but
you can just not check any boxes to move past the prompt.
Once installed, ScreenStream gives you a dashboard like the one seen
above. Unlike full-blown online meeting and remote access solutions,
this one is mainly for the person who wants to show someone remotely
how a process works, or walk quickly through a presentation. Also
unlike many of the free online meeting applications, there is no limit

don’t have to be on the phone to listen to you as they view your
desktop. If you want to share your desktop with a large group of people
who are going to be on various platforms, it’s a very quick, simple
solution without any fees. For more features in this type of
application, Dimdim, Yugma, Yuuguu and other free applications are what
I would reach for, but they don’t let you reach huge numbers of people
in their free versions.

The biggest headache to remotely access a computer is the port forwarding configuration. Few months ago I talked about accessing a remote computer in 2 minutes without port forwarding using Crossloop. Let me walk you through on how easy it is to remotely access a
computer using TeamViewer. Let's say Joe wants to connect to Sharon's
computer to help her troubleshoot some computer problems.
1. Joe will have to download the full version of TeamViewer which
contains the remote access feature. As for Sharon, she can download the
“Customer Module” which is smaller in size and doesn’t require
2. Joe and Sharon will have to run the downloaded TeamViewer.
3. Sharon will be presented with a 8 digit ID and password which will have to give to Joe.
4. Joe enters the ID and click Connect to partner button.
5. Joe enters the password which he received from Sharon.
6. Joe is now connected to Sharon's computer and able to view and control her computer.
There are a bunch of useful features at the top bar of the remote
screen. You can easily transfer file, start a chat session so you don’t
need to open up notepad to chat with your partner, record remote access
session to have a log on what you did, remote reboot and disable
keyboard and mouse to prevent the other person from messing around when
you’re doing your job. One of the weird feature is the “show black
screen”. This feature will make the remote partner screen turns black
so you can do whatever you want without letting the partner know what
you did. It’s a little weird isn’t it?
Other than that, recently TeamViewer released a version for Mac OS.
The new TeamViewer for Mac even supports cross-platform access so you
are now able to connect to a Mac from your Windows machine and back!
Since they have a Mac version, I believe they will start working on a
Linux version pretty soon as Mac is built from Linux.
By default TeamViewer uses only the outgoing Port 80 (HTTP), so no
firewall configuration is necessary. It is also advisable to open port
5938 for incoming connections which may result in faster point-to-point
I’ve heard about TeamViewer for quite a long time already but I’ve
never really tested it. Now that I’ve tested TeamViewer and I am glad I
did, it would be my first choice whenever I need to remotely help
someone with computer problems.
