Here are the latest news about Amazon Cloud Drive:

2015 Amazon released mobile app for Cloud Drive

Amazon has released a dedicated mobile app that allows users to access documents saved in its Cloud Drive service. The move comes as the cloud storage market becomes increasingly crowded, dominated by players such as Google and Dropbox. The app is now available for iOS, Android and Kindle devices and lets users view all documents stored in their Amazon Cloud account and can be accessed anywhere you're logged in. It also works as a companion to the existing desktop cloud client. So now you can look at everything via the app as you would on a desktop's file browser with the Dropbox app.

2015 Amazon Cloud Drive adds unlimited storage plan

Amazon Cloud Drive is expanding that service as a paid offering to cover all kinds of content, and to users outside of its loyalty program. Unlimited Cloud Storage will let users get either unlimited photo storage or “unlimited everything” — covering all kinds of media from videos and music through to PDF documents — respectively for $11.99 or $59.99 per year. The move is a clear attempt by Amazon to compete against the likes of Dropbox, Google, Microsoft and the many more in the crowded market for cloud-based storage services. It’s not the first to offer “unlimited” storage, but it looks like it’s the first to market this as a service to anyone who wants it.

2014 Amazon Cloud Drive gets API

Amazon is launching Cloud Drive API that will allow third-party developers to integrate Cloud Drive into their own applications, so they can focus more on their app’s feature set rather than the complexities involved with storage (screen resolutions, metadata management, indexing, search or sync functionality). Developers, of course, have been using Amazon Web Services for some time, but the Cloud Drive API is focused on building similar, more consumer-facing technology into applications. For instance, a photo-editing app could allow users to browse and edit photos they have stored on Amazon Cloud Drive. At launch, a number of mobile applications have integrated Cloud Drive’s API, including: OfficeSuite, Perfectly Clear, FreePrints, Photo Gifts by MailPix, ScanCafe, FileThis, CloudHQ, File Commander, Jumptuit, Secrata, and Wappwolf.

2013 Amazon wants to kill Dropbox

Two years ago, Amazon launched its online storage service Amazon Cloud Drive. It immediately drew attention thanks to its considerable free limits (5 GB on drive and 2GB - max file size) and built-in media player. But it didn't cause any revolution because it worked only in a browser and didn't allow to share files and sync files between computers. Now Amazon has removed these drawbacks. Amazon Cloud Drive has added agents for Windows and Mac, file sync between computers, sharing files with other users. And the service still offers 5 GB (2 GB file size) for free, and for 20 GB you need to pay just $10 per year. So the question is: what will happen to Dropbox?

After all, if Amazon won't be too lazy and release a couple of mobile Cloud Drive apps for iOS and Android, then Dropbox can become unnecessary intermediary provider. Recall that Dropbox uses Amazon S3 as its storage, i.e. it essentially resells Amazon's resources. And of course, it can't compete with Amazon in pricing and reliability.

2011 Amazon Cloud Drive vs. Microsoft SkyDrive vs. Google Docs vs. Box.net

Amazon Cloud Drive
Last week, Amazon launched the new online file storage service Amazon Cloud Drive. And taking into account reputation of Amazon, as the online storage market leader, this event, of course, deserves our attention. Let's consider the advantages and disadvantages of this service compared to key competitors. The main parameters - are shown in the table (below). It's turns out that the main advantage of Amazon Cloud Drive - if free 5GB account  with maximum file size of 2GB. However, its main drawback negates this advantage: you can not share this large file with anyone. Amazon Cloud Drive doesn't allow to share files publicly or protected by password. I.e. the only way of using this service - is a private storage for backup or enhancing your productivity.

Amazon Cloud Drive
However, taking into account the fact that Amazon Cloud Drive also doesn't provide online editors (like Google Docs or SkyDrive), nor a universal file viewer and a version control system (like Box.net), nor the mobile access, nor desktop synchronization - the competitiveness of this service is questionable. Although, it is quite simple and convenient tool.

Note also that the high free limits of Amazon Cloud Drive don't mean that it's paid resources are cheap. For example, the cost of 1TB in Amazon Cloud Drive - is $1000 per month, and in Google Docs, for comparison - $ 256/month.
